Professional English-speaking Guide (Northern Frontier Specialist)
This itinerary covers the most remote corner of Kenya. The journey transitions from the blinding white salt crust of the Chalbi Desert to the startling, wind-swept turquoise waters of Lake Turkana, famously known as the “Jade Sea.” This is a land of volcanic craters, ancient lava flows, and sun-baked horizons.
At Maudie Safaris, we consider this our “Epic Frontier” tour. Beyond the landscapes, this region is known as the Cradle of Mankind, where some of the world’s oldest hominid fossils were discovered. We take you to the shores of Loiyangalani, the oases of Kalacha, and the volcanic islands of the lake, offering a glimpse into a world that feels as though time stood still.
Preserving the Ecosystem
Lake Turkana is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the most saline lake in East Africa. It faces modern challenges from climate change and upstream damming. Maudie Safaris supports the Turkana Basin Institute and local community conservancies that protect the unique desert-adapted wildlife.
The region is home to the El Molo, Kenya’s smallest tribe as well as the Turkana, Rendille, and Gabbra people. We ensure our expeditions are culturally sensitive and economically beneficial to these remote communities. By visiting the Koobi Fora paleontological site, your tour supports the preservation of humanity’s shared history.
