Destination Overview
Jinja is where the world’s longest river begins its 6,650-kilometer journey to the Mediterranean Sea. At Maudie Safaris, we view Jinja not just as a city, but as a playground of energy and history. Located on the shores of Lake Victoria, this vibrant town is known as the “Adventure Capital of East Africa.”
It was here, in 1862, that the British explorer John Hanning Speke stood and confirmed the source of the Nile. Today, the river is a hub of high-octane activity. From the thunderous Grade 5 rapids of the White Nile to the serene, bird-filled islands near the source, Jinja offers a diverse range of experiences. Whether you want to conquer your fears with a bungee jump or simply sip a cold drink while watching the sun set over the water, Jinja captures the vibrant spirit of Uganda.
Preserving the Ecosystem
The Nile ecosystem faces threats from industrialization, overfishing, and deforestation of the riverbanks. Maudie Safaris is dedicated to sustainable tourism that protects this vital waterway. We support the preservation of the nearby Mabira Forest, one of the last remaining rainforests in Central Uganda by including eco-tourism activities like ziplining and nature walks in our itineraries. By choosing responsible boat operators and lodges that adhere to environmental standards, your visit helps demonstrate that preserving the natural flow and flora of the Nile is more economically valuable than degrading it.
